DS Max Carter   played by Christopher Fox

First appearance    Assault On Sun Hill: Part 1 (27/12/07)        

DS Max Carter arrived at Sun Hill fresh from CO19, the Met’s Specialist Firearm Command branch supporting unarmed police. He’s a highly trained marksman and very motivated. Straight away Max gets Terry’s approval after backing him up when they'd only just been introduced.

Max left CO19 after he'd taken out two targets on two separate occasions, followed by two separate inquiries; both of which Max was cleared of any misconduct. Officially Max’s move was put down to his post-traumatic stress, but - as ever - it was really down to politics. As he would tell you himself, every cloud has a silver lining, and his was to be promoted to DS.

Max is a cop who's cool as a cucumber with a natural authority that comes from his ultimate self-belief. People who meet him say he's detached and unemotional. But really he's a man who’s greatest strength lies in his mental toughness. He lives on four hours sleep and is never less than razor sharp.

Carter can offend people with his bluntness and seemingly standoffish approach. He’s not a machine though; there’s a certain charm to him, but his smile doesn’t always reach his eyes.
