CONFIRMATION OF NEW CHARACTERS (25/2/02)

The official site has announced a whole new crowd of faces who are soon to join The Bill. They have confirmed the characters' names and a few details about their personality traits:

Uniform

Inspector Gina Gold - who is 'heading up uniform' (one wonders whether they are abolishing the Chief Inspector rank), a ballsy and occasionally terrifying leader who's no stranger to a good whiskey and a fag! She is played by Roberta Taylor who was Irene in EastEnders.
PC Luke Ashton - yes he's back, returning after a two year absence. Apparently his character has grown up considerably since we last saw him.
PC Kerry Young - who is a keen and enthusiastic officer and fancies PC Ashton. She is played by Beth Cordingly, who appeared in Family Affairs.

PC Gary Best - will apparently have eyes for PC Kerry Young (yikes, another love triangle), played by Ciaran Griffiths who was last seen in Coronation Street as Linda Sykes' brother.

PC Gemma Osbourne - will be Sun Hill's first lesbian officer, played by Jane Danson, who played Leanne Battersby in Coronation Street (are you seeing a pattern here?!)

CID

DS Phil Hunter - a younger, sharper version of bent copper DS Beech. He is played by Scott Maslen who appeared in the TV series Lock, Stock.
DC Ken Drummond - who has a large family and penchant for loud, Hawaiian shirts. He is played by Russell Floyd - who was Michael Rose in EastEnders.
DC Eva Sharp - a no nonsense detective who quickly settles in, played by Diane Parish.
DC Brandon Kane - a trainee detective, played by Pal Aron who was recently a regular in Casualty.

Apparently, Sun Hill is gaining its first civilian officer too, in the form of Front Desk Officer Roberta Cryer - yes, Bob Cryer's niece (surely they could have come up with a more original name?!). This ties in with rumours that Eric Richard (retired Sgt. Cryer) is returning to the show in a guest-spot. There are also rumours flying around that there will be a new female Detective Sergeant joining the cast, who is soon made Acting DI when Alex Cullen leaves the series.
