He has gone on the run after kidnapping ex-lover Sgt Sheelagh Murphy (Bernie Nolan) and PC Cameron Tait (Daniel MacPherson).

The drama reaches a climax when PC Reg Hollis (Jeff Stewart) is called out to a deserted lido.

He comes face to face with demented Des — who pulls a gun. Reg is rescued and Des taken to the station in handcuffs. But he is later found dead in one of the cells.

Reg tops the long list of suspects who may have killed Des. He almost lost his job protecting his best friend.
