Fiery Roy Galloway was proud of being the youngest DI in the division. He was CID's boss for 4 years and a copper from the 'old school'. A hard taskmaster who was not afraid to bend the rules in order to get a result, he never set out to cultivate friendships at Sun Hill. His reluctance to take time off led to domestic friction (his marriage had crumbled) and he often took out his anger and frustration on those around him at work. His bad tempered treatment of June Ackland on one occasion almost made her resign. There were also unexpressed tensions between Roach and Galloway - that often came to a head, but the two developed a mutual respect for one another over time. Galloway's sudden departure came as a shock to some, a relief to others.
