PC Benjamin Gayle has been in the force for five years. On his first couple of days in Sun Hill he certainly doesn’t bother trying to impress – as time will tell, he doesn’t have to. This is a copper who can look after himself physically; be sensitive enough to know how to motivate a witness to come out with the truth under testing circumstances, and also stand up to his peers - but also give them credit where it's due.

Benjamin stands up for the underdog; that’s why he’s a police officer. He has clear markers over what’s right and what’s wrong. Affable, enthusiastic and dedicated, Ben’s a reliable foot-soldier no matter which sergeant’s in charge, but whose loyalty to Sally, Stone and Will is paramount and thus far has been unfailing.

However, it may well be these allegiances that trip up this gentle giant and compromise his officer’s pledge.
