KERRY SHOT OUTSIDE GUN HILL (16/10/04)

From The Sun newspaper:

Kerry Young shot dead

TRAGEDY strikes as troubled copper Kerry is brutally gunned down outside Sun Hill.

She dies later in hospital and, in another shocking twist, DNA tests reveal that she was carrying Gabriel’s child.

Kerry knew a lot of dark secrets. But who was so desperate to kill her?

When Kerry goes missing in the morning, Smithy worries that David Radford may have carried out his threat to kill Kerry for betraying him.

But then he finds a worried Kerry at the hospital - her father has suffered a stroke and is in a coma - and he finally declares his love for her.

Who killed Kerry? ... was it undercover journo Andrea, worried she'd blow her cover or evil rapist Gabriel

“Kerry loves him too, but he’d never dared to tell her before,” says Beth Cordingly, 26, who plays the tragic PC.

“But his timing is awful - what with her dad in a coma and everything else on her mind - she just can’t cope.

“Kerry decides to reveal everything at Sun Hill. Her days as a cop are over and she wants to tell the truth.”

Whodunnit? ... could it be June Ackland or even Inspector Gina Gold

Kerry phones Gina to say she’s got some important information for her. Outside the station with Smithy, she tells him she loves him, but is then struck by two bullets. She collapses into his arms.

“It’s a brilliant episode - a bit like an Agatha Christie whodunit,” says Beth. “On top of it all, the investigators then tell Gabriel that Kerry was pregnant with his baby.”

Beth filmed her final scenes in August after two-and-a-half years in the role.

“I was very emotional and couldn’t stop crying,” she reveals. “But I could not have asked for a better exit.”
