Detective Constable Jo Masters is a woman on a mission. Strong, lively and dynamic, she is a high flying detective with several years experience in the job. Initially brought in to Sun Hill to sort out the feud between CID chief Jack Meadows and young pretender DI Neil Manson, Jo's transfer was also prompted by the fact that her former senior officer couldn't abide her. But she is passionate about life and her work - she gets results and doesn't really care who she offends in the process.

Despite spending the majority of her career in regional police, Jo has managed to create a notorious reputation for herself in the Met - one thing she certainly isn't is a push-over. No-nonsense and headstrong, she'll do anything to nail a crook and makes sure the colleagues she works alongside pull their weight too. She is motivated by her sense of responsibility to the public. The job is a vocation and a way of life – she’s never wanted to do anything else. Openly gay and proud of it, Jo Masters is a driven detective who plays close to the edge. She may not be liked but she is respected professionally and heralds a new era of policing in the male dominated world of the Met. Outside of the job, Jo keeps her private life to herself. She has spent the last year working undercover for Nottingham CID.
