ARFUR'S BACK IN PRISON (7/1/06)
From The Sun newspaper:
OLD
misery Arthur Fowler is rising from the dead — for a role in The Bill.
Ex-EastEnders favourite Bill Treacher makes his TV comeback — ten years after his character was killed off in the BBC1 soap.
Treacher, 75, who played Pauline’s downtrodden hubby for 11 years, will return on the ITV1 cop show.
The last time we saw Arthur he was heading to that great allotment in the sky after dying in jail.
This will be the first time Treacher has been on the small screen since quitting EastEnders in 1996. Since then, he has made five films.
But, bizarrely, his new character will be similar to Arthur — as they both end up in jail.
Poor old market-trader Arthur was banged up twice — first for nicking the Christmas club money and then after he was framed by villainous Willy Roper.
Treacher’s
character in The Bill, Morris Leatherhead, is the prison cellmate
of Sergeant Dale “Smithy” Smith (Alex Walkinshaw).
An insider said: “Smithy is put behind bars when his bid to start a new life with gangster’s wife Louise Larson goes wrong.
He is hauled in by cops after being framed for Louise’s death.
“Things go from bad to worse and Smithy ends up in jail sharing a cell with Morris, who is supposed to be looking out for him.”
Treacher’s scenes are on at the end of the month.
