I SAY, IT'S T' CHINESE DETECTIVE (27/8/04)
From The Sun newspaper:
Actress Wendy Kweh will storm
into Sun Hill as no-nonsense DC Suzie Sim. Wendy, appears in the ITV1 drama
on September 22. She said: “Suzie will trample
on anyone who gets in her way. She is an advocate for tough love and a really
feisty character.” In Corrie, Wendy, 29, had Fred
Elliott spluttering more than his usual “I say” when she turned up as young
Thai bride Lily Stokes, who had married Mike Baldwin’s dodgy pal Dennis
Stokes. She then persuaded lonely Fred
(John Savident) that a Far East girl 40 years his junior would suit him too. Butcher Fred was introduced to
another internet bride, named Orchid. But just as he was about to show her his
Weatherfield sausage, Orchid spun a web of lies and conned him out of £5,000. As DC Sim, Wendy makes an
impressive start at Sun Hill when she is teamed up with trainee DC Gary Best (Ciaran
Griffiths) and bullies him into doing things her way. British TV’s last hit oriental
cop was back in the early 1980s when David Yip starred in the BBC drama The
Chinese Detective.
CORRIE’S
mail-order bride has joined The Bill — as its first Chinese detective.
