It has taken 21 years but the long arm of The Bill's PC Jim Carver has finally captured his quarry, Sgt June Ackland.

Wedding scenes have been filmed and a five-star hotel in West Sussex has been used for "an all-singing, all-dancing glitzy bash".

Sgt Ackland, played by Trudie Goodwin, 49, wore a white bridal gown and fairytale skirt and corset-style bodice while the bridegroom, played by Mark Wingett, 50, sported a traditional morning suit and hat.

Fans will be delighted that one of the show's longest running romances has final ended in a walk up the aisle.

Carver and Ackland's wedding will be shown later this summer but in true soap style all will not go according to plan.

The two characters were attracted to each other in the very first episode in 1983 when she "puppy walked" Carver on his first day in the job. Carver has had a failed marriage and drink problems since then.
