Welcome to The Bill Biographies. On this site are detailed biographies of every regular character to appear in ITV1's police drama The Bill, from 1984 to the present. The site has been online since January 2003, although it took a couple of years on-and-off before that to get it designed and operational!

I owe a lot of thanks to the old official site of the series and Rachel Silver's book The Bill: The Inside Story, which many of the biographical details are taken from. What I found as a fan of the show, was that many important details were missing from these profiles - i.e. in Jim Carver's profile, there is no mention of his move back to uniform and his subsequent battle with alcoholism, something I believe is key to his character. Similarly, Dave Quinnan's stabbing/marriage/affair all fail to mention in his profile.

Since the revamp of thebill.com, all of the past cast profiles have been significantly abbreviated, so I have tried to make mine as thorough as possible. I have included the first and last appearance of characters when they were regular members of cast (i.e. Burnside's guest appearances between 1998-2000 don't count as he technically was a guest character). Call signs as well as personality traits/events are mentioned in the profiles too.

I also noticed a number of characters fail to have profiles on the official site (such as Sgt. Steele, PC Litten, PC Muswell, etc.), so I have written ones for these. Before anyone mentions it, I know that the 'Old Bill' section still has a few pictures missing - if anyone has images of Insp. Kite, PC Lyttleton, PC Muswell, PC Patel or DCI Wray I would be extremely grateful!

The pictures of characters are taken from a variety of different sources, all mentioned on the Credits page of the site. Some details on new characters to join the series are taken from the official website, as these details have yet to be revealed in on-screen episodes. Similarly, some pictures of the new characters are taken from the official website, so thanks to them.

So, I will aim to update character profiles on an episodic basis, so keep checking back for regular updates! I hope you like the site and welcome any feedback with your thoughts/comments/ideas. Just email me.
