being the show’s longest serving policeman, from his first day as a
probationer through his addictions and final loss. The Bill Uncovered:
Jim’s Story can be seen on ITV3.

WHAT’S
YOUR DREAM SATURDAY NIGHT?
“Having a barbecue on the beach after I’ve been diving all day. That’s
ideal.”
WHAT DO YOU DO TO GET READY FOR IT?
“Well you have to take your wetsuit off.”
IF YOU COULD MAKE ONE LAW FOR SATURDAY NIGHTS,
WHAT WOULD IT BE?
“Taxis should be free. They should just come and pick you up and take you
home.”
WHAT’S THE BEST SATURDAY NIGHT OUT YOU’VE
EVER HAD? AND THE WORST?
“When you get to my age it’s a bit difficult remembering. The best was 1978
and it was The Who rock concert at Wembley Stadium. It was the night after the
premiere of Quadrophenia, which was my first job. That was the best
Saturday night ever.
“The worst? Ooh, there have been a few of those. I’d finished a play in
Glasgow, I got on the train and I meant to get off in Liverpool and ended up in
London. I had to spend all night going back to Liverpool where I was based at
the time.”
WHO WOULD YOU MOST LIKE TO
SPEND YOUR WEEKEND WITH?
“My missus, Sharon.”
DO YOU LIVE FOR THE
WEEKEND AND FREE TIME?
“I do actually. Well I used to when I was working.”
WHAT SORT OF A SUNDAY
PERSON ARE YOU?
“Depends where I am. I’ve got a place by the sea in Kent. On a Sunday we
have something to eat and go for a walk or if I’m in London, I stay in bed
until three.”
HOW DO YOU HANDLE
HANGOVERS?
“I don’t drink so it’s not a problem.”
WHICH CITY IS THE BEST FOR
NIGHTLIFE AND WHY?
“It has to be London doesn’t it? It’s the centre of the world and
fantastic for nightlife.”
WHAT DID YOU GET UP TO
LAST WEEKEND AND WHAT ARE YOU DOING THIS WEEKEND?
“Last weekend I went to the Brecon Beacons in Wales and went to see my mate
Steven. This weekend I’m going to a Valentine’s party down in Hampshire.
I’ve got to wear pink.”
